Original Abu Garcia MGX life span

Featured Replies

Owners of the first gen MGX baitcaster. How have your reels held up over the years. I’m not thrilled with the performance of mine after 6-7 years of not so heavy use that included regular cleaning and maintenance. Or is it not fair to compare them to today’s baitcasters

I have 7 Rvo MGX reels Gen 1. I live in IL, north of Chicago ,in Mundelein. I fish from April till November about 2 times per week. I only fish my Revo MGX's and Revo MGXtremes. Not one issue. I love my reels and maintain them myself. I am always on the look out for more. I've tried other reels mainly Daiwa, and was not impressed. The MGX's are very light and compact. They fit my hands really well, and I can cast a 1/8 jig with a trailer in the wind with no problem. What seems to be the problem with your reels?

I've had one for 6 years now and have had no issues at all.clean it once a year and that's all I've done.

I have one that I got when it came out. It has been sitting a couple years, but worked well for years and I imagine I could grab it right now and it'd fish fine. I think they just missed the boat on pricing those reels. You can find them readily around $200 now and that's not bad. They aren't $300+ reels at all.
