Dobyns Champoin XP 705c Frogs & S-Waver 168

Featured Replies

Hello

Does anyone have a 705c and throw 168 S-Wavers with it? Frog with it?

I'm sure it would make a nice jig rod too.

I'm looking for a heavy rod to do a few things. Where I fish I don't need 65lb braid and giant heavy rod for frogging.

Don't want to go over 7'

Thanks

Personally wouldn't throw a S Waver 168 on it as I find many other better options but whatever floats your boat. Great rod for jigs/frogs

What do you feel would make it a bad choice for that bait?

I have a 735c that I used for frogs a swim jigs/ regular jigs. Awesome rod, a little soft for my liking as a frog rod but it works. I have actually used it for s wavers before and it works. Not the perfect rod for it as I’d prefer something a little slower but it definitely gets the job done. Might lose a fish or two but you will be able to land the majority of them.

Frog rods are completely different than a glidebait rod. You could shoot down to the fury line and get yourself the proper rods for both, and have a couple bucks left over

I see Dobyns has a Fury 735c listed for small swimbaits, and frogs. I figured the 705c would do both ok too. I'm not an avid swimbait guy, just want something to throw an S-Waver 168 on sometimes.

My frogging isn't crazy deep heavy cover fishing either, more moderate weeds.

Wouldn't throw a 168, but a 120 would be fine.

I've been throwing S Waver 168, 7" Keitech with 1/4oz beast hooks, and frogging on my Champion 705 for a season and half, and it's been really great. No issues, no lost fish, and the rod works well with these baits for me.
