Featured Replies

Hey BR,

Has anybody tried these swivels yet? I ordered a Size 6 which is rated for 70lbs. The snap swivels are suppperrrr smallll. They seem way to small to be 70lbs,I also am thinking of buying a Size 5 and 4 for Muskie, Striped Bass and for BIG Swimbaits, so has anybody tried these before?

Are you looking at size verses Kg's or lbs?

I use Spro crane swivels for comparison, don't need swivels for swimbaits. Berkley Cross link snaps are good quality for less money and size 6 (100 lbs) occasionally for swimbaits.

I'm should I just cut the swivel off and just have the snap? I just don't want to be retieing constantly. Have you ever broken those snaps before? I'm looking for some really good quality snaps now that I'm going to be throwing $60 swimbaits.

Cross link snaps can be opened on both ends, the small end to remove the swivel.

It's to close the snap hook over the top. You biggest issue is toothy fish like pike.

AFW makes good wire leaders.

I haven't broken a Berkley or Owner snap, never used a AFW snap.

These aren't the dual locking snaps, I hope it dost make a big difference compared to the dual locking, do you know any leader that are cheap and are rated for 100lbs? I've looked for pike leaders but they are all like $10 bucks each!

AFW Surflon Micro 7 x7 strand black 40 lb leader can be tied to the swivel clip, $13 for 30' should make up several leader assemblies.

Wire leader can be tied to swivels? What knot would you recommend?

I think the snap style you are picturing here is called a "coastlock" snap. Yes, I like these and that is what I use. The "mini might" part may be referring the material, and the sizes you are talking about may be the size of the swivel. So this can be confusing. I buy the coastlock snaps separately from the swivel, and I put them on opposites ends of my flouro leader (this is for Pike, and I am using 80 lb flouro now). I like this version of snap best for leaders, because I like the closed loop for attaching the flouro with a crimp, and that can't get tangled with the lure/snap part.

In the coastlock snap sizes, I like the #34 rated for 90 lbs. The smaller #33 rated for 75 are small, and hard to clip at times with my fingers and eye sight, particularly on larger lures, and I could bend and deform them with my fingers. But if you want a smaller snap for bass, that may be a good choice. I also bought the larger #35 rated for 150 and they are very strong and stiff, so much so they are hard to open (probably a good choice for musky).
