Shimano Stradic FL vs FK spinning reel

Featured Replies

I may be in the market for a Shimano spinning reel. What are the differences between the Stradic FL vs the FK? Looked around here and online and it was not super clear to me. Thanks

The biggest difference is the spool. The FL got a hand-me-down from the Stella with the Long Stroke spool. In theory it should provide better line management and more distance. The FL has micro gears as well. I don't think it makes a noticeable difference in smoothness out of the box, because the FK was plenty good, but we'll see how it rolls in a year or so.

Have the 2500 FL and it's a very nice reel. The FL has the long spool, improved line roller, new anti reverse mechanism, and the Mico module gearing. There is probably a few more small features. Tackle advisors did an excellent review on YouTube, sold me on it. I also picked it up at 30% off during a boxing day sale.

So far I am a big fan of Shimano, in fact I was so impressed with the Stradic I went and bought a Curado K as well.

I never pay retail and usually at least a model behind current. It boils down to your personal priorities and budget. The new model has some features as described but the k is no slouch.

I thought I remembered someone complaining about how thin and difficult the "bail wire" was to open and close? Anything to that? Other differences to consider?

I've used shimano spinning reels for over 20 years and I've never had a bail wire bend or fail.
