Another boat...

Featured Replies

I am going to look at a 88 Kingfisher bass boat 15' with a 2003 Mercury 90 HP on Saturday.  The owner says the boat is in great condition and is "loaded."  It has dual Lowrance fishfinders.  I have looked at 5 different boats and I am thinking this is the one as long as it is what he says it is.  NADA has priced this boat and motor at exactly what he is asking.  I hope to be towing this home Saturday afternoon, what do you think?

He is asking $3800...Opinions?

Thanks guys.

I would think that's a pretty good price on that unit. From the pics the motor looks to be pretty clean.

Let us know how you turn out with it.

Thats what I was thinking.  If the boat itself is half as clean as that motor appears to be then it seems like a good deal to me, although some of the boats I have gone to look at appeared in good shape in the pics and were far from it when I got there.

It sounds like a good deal. Fair price if everything works.

Throw the clean motor stuff out the window. You better get it checked out by someone that knows what they are doing. It's your own fault if you don't.

^^^^^ agreed anyone can make a motor look new and shiny. Its a whole different thing to keep a motor running like new. Get it checked out. If it is all looking in good shape, then it looks like a good deal. I know too many people who bought a "perfect" motor, and had it choke on them within a month of buying it. Therefore, take the safe road and get it checked out good luck, :)

At the very least have a compression test done, check the lower unit oil and the bearings on the trailer.

Those boats are built strong, so I wouldn't worry too much about the hull unless you feel a soft spot.

Just remember, no matter what size boat you buy today, you will out grow it tomorrow.....  ;D

When i said clean motor I didn't just mean it was shiny.  I will have someone that knows what they are looking for taking a look at the boat with me.  I will let you guys know how it goes.

Yeah i would have the motor checked, it may look clean but looks can be deceiving. I just bought a used boat and didnt have the motor checked by a professional, but my dad knows engines pretty well and we had it running in the guys driveway and looked at the spark plugs and all looked good. Also i would check all the wiring and ask the guy how everything is connected. We did not do this and it got us stuck on the water because the electric start wasn't workng right so when i got home i labeled all the wires and found several wires that led to nothing. So look over that also. Good luck!
