oil bath bearings for my boat trailer

Featured Replies

Going to replace hubs this year, any plus's or negative results on using the oil bath vs grease? Any certain brands to buy?

I have been considering this move as well. If you decide to switch please let us know how it worked.

I have not found anyone that has offered any negative feedback on the oil bath system. They have been used on trucks and railroad cars for years. However I would still like some feedback on use in a marine environment.................Al

I was also thinking of these as a wonderfull addition but I do not believe from what I have read that they are able to be approved for submersion.  I also think that with the quick cooling affect, they may suck water in.  Just what I was pondering any way.

On a semi rig if the seals develop a leak the brakes get oil on them and fail. Some if not all semi oilbath seal systems are warranteed for 250,000 miles and more. Although when I first heard of oilbath seals for boat trailes it was of interest I am no longer considering the switch. This looks like overkill for a boat trailer to me.

My Triton trailer has them also.  Not a problem with them.  Dealer recommended change oil every 2 years.

Well that is great news to me!  I am def. gonna switch now that main stream manufactures are doing it.  I love the idea of it on my boat trailer because I hate greasing them but still do :(.  Awesome information as always.
