We've just moved into a new house and I have a spot for my boat, down the side of the house in between my fence and my mothers fence. I would like to get a car-port type deal to park it under but I'm looking at about a grand for one of those.

I have a regular Gambler boat cover but I'd like something else to keep the rain and snow off the cover. The space in between the two fences is only 15 ft wide so the carport or whatever needs to be either 12' or 14' and my boat on the trailer is right around 26' long.

Anybody have any suggestions other than a steel carport?

Custom build your own. You can make it look a lot better than a standard carport and build it to fit your rig like a glove. Just check your local building codes on what you can do. Some areas even those carports have setback restrictions.

I've got a boat cover with a tarp over the top of that.  Has always kept the cover and boat dry and clean.  I change the tarp about mid summer and put another on as my season ends around December.  At around $24 bucks a pop, you can buy a whole lot of tarps for what one of those tarp type shelters will cost.

Apparently the guy who built the standard metal frame/aluminum roof carport has some kind of monopoly going. Every place I have called gets them from the same dude in Texas and all are within $25 bucks of each other.

And this really burns me up. I can get a 18'wide x 21'deep x 9'tall  for $700. They want $300 more for a SMALLER carport. 12w x 26d x 7t. What gives?  :-?

That doesn't sound right. More for less sounds great until you hear some B.S. like that. Did they give you any logical reason for the price difference? You would think that shipping from Texas alone would make the larger one more.

I used to store mine indoors in winter (this is the first it has seen outside) I was thinking about one of those plastic carport type deals. Luckily we have only had a couple bad snows and I have been able to keep it relatively snow free. I have everything out of it that can be taken out batteries,sonars,chargers everything. I used to be able to fit it snugly in my garage but I hit some debris in a construction zone and blew a tire. That threw my trailer into the center divider. Totaling it, now my aftermarket trailer is too long.

Have you looked at the Canopy (tarp) style carports?  They range from 350-600 for your dimensions.  Do a internet search.  Some people in this area (NW) use them, just make sure it is properly anchored.  You can find these with just three sides, to save some bucks if it is against the house.  Also for the price, i agree you can build you own custom carport for less money.
