Is a daiwa millionaire 3h high speed saltwater usable without damaging it?

Featured Replies

I'm sorry if there is already a topic on this already. I joined yesterday, and couldn't find any post talking about it. My question is does anyone know if a daiwa millionaire 3h high speed can be used in saltwater for striper fishing without damaging the internals? I use it in fresh water, and if it swims it will catch it. Any information about the reel will be very helpful my grandpa gave it to me, and I never stop and asked him if I could use it in saltwater while he was still around.

Wow. You don’t hear much about those reels any more lol. I have one.

To the best of my recollection, as I bought this as a teenager in the 70’s, I believe it is strictly a freshwater reel. Use it in saltwater at your own peril.

You got it from your grandpa. I bought it NIB in maybe 1975. Nothing like a thread like this the day after Father’s Day to make one feel older than dirt lol.

Thank you for helping me out with my question, and yours reel is a lot nicer looking then my. Between me and my grandpa using it. Its starting turn silver from all the wear.

While I'm also thinking about would that go the same for a 4h millionaire also?

I believe so. Are you talking full salt water, or brackish? I used mine a few times in the Upper Chesapeake with low salinity with no issues. I rinsed it well afterwards with fresh water. But I would not use it for true saltwater fishing.

Thanks. I try to maintain all my hunting and fishing gear as well as possible. Granted, it’s been sitting idle a long time, but I used it frequently years (decades) ago. I’ve used it this year and caught a few bass on it. I actually may buy a better rod than the Berkley it’s on now and set it up for something specific. Maybe a dedicated weighted TR set-up. It still casts well with 12 lb YZH. Only catch is no thumb bar, so you need two hands always to cast lol.

Saltwater flats for reds and stripers on padre Island or Port a texas.

Also I personally like my 3h millionaire on a Shakespeare ugly stik elite 7ft medium heavy. i caught some pretty good bass and stripers with it in freshwater.
