Whopper plopper rod

Featured Replies

I just started fishing a whopper plopper 110 on a mh abu garcia veritas rod...it is a very stiff rod. I've lost a few fish on it.. would a dobyns 735 fury be a better rod for the 110 plopper?

An administrator on another forum uses the 735C Champion and says it is perfect for the 90 and 110 sizes.

Can't offer any personal advice.

3 power for the 90 (1/2oz)

4 power for the 75 (5/8oz)

I'd use a 5 power for the 110 (1oz). I never use the 130. A WP doesn't need a specific rod, just whatever you have that can accommodate the weight. It's got stout, sticky trebles.

The bass pro cranking stick is a great rod for The whopper plopper  I use a 7’3 heavy for the 110. It has the perfect parabolic bend for keeping the fish pined. And a great back bone for setting the hook. And it’s not expensive.

I only throw a 110.  I use a H/Fast, Daiwa Tatula Elite to be exact.

I have thrown a 70 and used a MegaBass Diablo Spec R

While the 735C could do it, it's not the best choice IMO. I would opt for the Tatula Elite 7'4 MH Howell rod. It's perfect for it!
