Caught a fish on a home made "Tokyo Jig"

Featured Replies

I wanted to try a Tokyo jig, but I didn't feel like ordering it and then waiting for another two weeks for it to arrive due to the current pandemic. So I decided to make myself a homemade Tokyo Jig using: a Gamakatsu 4/0 hook, a Spro ball power swivel, a Split ring, and a spinnerbait shaft wire. I then took it to a local pond to give it a try. The pond was covered in thick, heavy grass so I had do some selective punching w/1.5 oz tungsten weight. On my second cast, I hooked a two pounder, and I'm stoked! I'm a lazy guy by nature, and this is the first time in my life I made a homemade jig/bait/lure/anything that produced fish! Pretty cool, I think. :)

I've made one but haven't used it.

You are definitely onto something Eddie.

When I first saw the TokyoRig, my first thought was "gimmick!"

After watching guys catch fish on them I thought it was worth five bucks to try at a pond I fish that has a muddy, mucky bottom.

There is no gimmick about the TokyoRig.  The swimming action that the ring produces combined with the way the bait stops before it hits the bottom is money.

I may not be able to buy a topwater strike this year but the Tokyo has been a flippin mo-chine for me.

Good job making your own!

That was exactly what I was thinking.....man, another silly ad to make $$, but after looking at some of those videos posted on Youtube, I thought I should give it an honest try before forming a non-biased opinion. And I'm glad I did. Thank you for your post.

And I think you should. Heck, if I can catch fish with it, you can too.

I'm sure it works. Also, it's proof that fish aren't very line shy.
