How can i tell.....

Featured Replies

I just purchased a 2016 model bass at boat that has HDS ? at console and bow.

1)I am pretty sure they are Gen3 but not sure how to know so How can I tell.

2)As i was looking around i noticed that the previous owner had loaded Navionics on it.  So I assume that  i can use it but just can update it.  Is that correct?

3) If they are in fact Gen3’s.  AND i cant really use all of the Navionics features, will C-Map Contour+ work on a Gen3 or is that only for HDS Live units?

I am pretty techy but having upgrade my fishing electronics in a long time so still trying to figure all this out, and now that i have a new ride, i am ready to make the most of it.  Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Telling the difference in HDS units is pretty simple. Turn one on and go into the settings menu -> select system -> select about. On the top left it will show the locator name so a gen2 touch would be G2T-(size) a gen 3 would be HDS3-(size) and I'm assuming the carbon would have either a c or carbon in the name.

As for mapping, if you have a Navionics card in it, you will continue to be able to use it. If you're looking for other mapping option, check out Cmap Genesis social mapping first. It's free to use and you can add to it yourself.
