15 or 16 ft stable boat

Featured Replies

looking for a aluminum boat, 15 or 16ft wide beam mod v hull type, what are some recommendations for a stable boat fishing from the front casting deck, something similar to those bass tracker's i see a video recently that some company was advertising a 16 ft alumacraft with a 20hp for 9999.00 but it looks very unstable shifting from one side to the other on the deck. i would hate to make a purchase and not be happy if it is not stable, any suggestion that i can look at that i would be happy with.

At the moment my boat is a 16ft sylvan deep V with a 45hp Honda on it. When I first bought it I was concerned with it being unstable but after having it for a couple months I couldn’t be happier. I have put it on spot lock, jumped off the boat and then did a pull up on the side to get myself back it and even that barely got it off center. It’s got a good casting deck and the walls are not super high so it doesn’t make working baits hard. I know a deep V is not the optimal boat to bass fish out of but don’t count them out just because that’s not the norm. I’ve had the boat in 3 foot rollers and it had no issues getting me back to where I had to be.

I have a tracker pro team 165 and I have no complaints about it been using it for years. Boats that length are only going to be so stable. Boats move no matter what  even giant fiberglass boats. Boats in the 16 foot range are all going to be mostly equal on stability with the same hull designs.

With aluminum jon boats stability is about bottom width not length or beam.

The wider the bottom width the more stable the boat when you're moving around in it.
