Good morning everyone,

I would like to know a little more about this engine.  I have a problem with my 1970 48hp spl evinrude engine.  I can not shift into reverse after bumping into rocks.  The mechanic told me that the gear pinons is damaged.  He wants to charge me $400 for parts, without the labor.  I found a 1974, 70hp Johnson engine for $150.  I just want to know whether both engine use the same lower setup.  I thought it does.
