Good morning everyone, I would like to know a little more about this engine. I have a problem with my 1970 48hp spl evinrude engine. I can not shift into reverse after bumping into rocks. The mechanic told me that the gear pinons is damaged. He wants to charge me $400 for parts, without the labor. I found a 1974, 70hp Johnson engine for $150. I just want to know whether both engine use the same lower setup. I thought it does. Please let me know. Many thanks in advance. htd

Dear everyone, I am new to this sport. I would like to start a new project of putting a decent boat. I am looking to get a used engine to put on an old boat I current have. It's a 50hp yamaha 4strokes engine, 08' version with approx 500 to 800hrs on it. I just wonder what is a useful life any particular engine before it needs an overhaul.
