I am a big fan of Lews bait cast reels when it comes to sheer distance you can cast them. I want to get a Lews for my new deep crank set up and bombing casts super far is a big deal to me. I am trying to decide between the BB1 and the Tournament MB. Due to design and specifically the braking system of each which should you theoretically be able to cast further? Anyone with personal experience with these two reels?

For me the tournament mb will cast farther than any other Lews reel.

For a deep cranking reel id go with the bb1 of those 2. The mb is a nice reel but I feel like the bb1 is better suited for cranking.  Either will cast great if setup correctly

I agree.

 

Keep in mind the BB1 is internal centrifugal brakes and the MB has a dual braking system with external dial for the magnets.

BB1 was built for deep cranking.

Man, I am all for the slow reels for this technique but 21" just seems like it is inching along LOL

Can you explain to me what that means and how it affects potential casting distance? Wouldn't a dual braking system that offers more adjustment possibilities be "better"?

For me dual brakes have been easier to cast and not backlash not necessarily better for distance casting. The dual brakes from what I understand control the cast at the start (centrifugal) and the end (magnets) of the cast. This allows for someone to cast without their thumb on the spool if they so choose. You will sacrifice some distance casting this way though.

 

I cast father with my Lew's Pro TI than my MB. The Pro TI has centrifugal brakes with an external adjustment dial. The BB1 does not have this dial so it is a bit more work to get it set just right. A well trained thumb and these types of reels will get you the farthest casts.

I have the new tournament mp And the bb1 they both cast far. I would recommend the bb1 for deep cranking just because of the line capacity. I use the bb1 for my deep cranks.

I have both and prefer the mb. The bb1 is a fine cranking reel with more line capacity but is far more finicky, especially with large cranks. I honestly can't say one casts farther than the other but the mb is much more user friendly.

So , get the 6:4:1 BB1. 28" per turn.They even make it in a 7:1. I'll guarantee you that BB1 will bomb a crankbait as far as you want to throw it.
