Help needed - Which rod with which technique

Featured Replies

Hi there.  Have the following rods and trying to figure out which rod would work best for which technique.  Have added the ones I have locked in but struggling a little with what rods to use for my keitechs / swimbaits / swim jigs / weightless senkos and soft plastics, crankbaits and jerkbaits etc.

Thanks!

Spinning

Dobyns Sierra 692 - Ned Rig

Dobyns Fury 703 - Thinking weightless senkos and texas rigged plastics like rage craws etc

Casting

Dobyns Fury 734

Dobyns Champion 703 (tried weightless senkos but was struggling to cast them.  Seemed to work better with my keitech fat swing impact)

Dobyns Champion 705 - Topwaters (megabass pop max / whopper plopper etc), frogs

Kistler Argon 7ft medium (2 power)

Kistler Argon 7ft light medium heavy (3 power)

I usually fish weightless senkos on a Champion 683sf or Kaden 743c, so I'd stick with a 3 power rod, your fury 703sf should be perfect. The 2 power dobyns work but are a little light imho. I used to fish swimjigs on a fury 734c but switched to a sierra 734c, but the fury will do just fine. As for Keitechs, it depends on what weight jighead you plan on fishing them with but for 3/8 oz+ the fury 734c is a good choice, anything less I would go with your 703 Champion.

Thanks!  So maybe I'll keep throwing the keitechs on the 703c and use the 734 for my swim jigs.

What about stuff like crankbaits and jerkbaits?  Throw them on the 705 along with my topwaters?  Any any suggestions on what techniques the kistler rods would be best for?  Waiting on them arriving in the mail so only used Dobyns until now.

Thanks again!

I personally use a 13 fishing cranking rod for cranks and a 6'8" medium moderate action for jerkbaits. The medium argon rod might be a good jerkbait and crankbait rod but most people tend to look for a rod with a moderate action for cranking. The Champ 705 is probably gonna be a little too heavy for jerkbaits and cranks. You can prob get away with throwing heavier deep diving cranks on the 705, but for smaller squarebills and stuff try a medium rod.
