I've been upgrading my fishing rods and reels over the past few months (really love the Dobyns Fury series). I used to mostly fish rivers from a Pond Prowler, so I was using shorter rods. Now I've got a bass boat and I am fishing lakes, so the longer rods are really nice to have. I've got an older Abu Garcia Vendetta (see below in bold red) - I'm not exactly sure what to do with this rod. Is there something specific this rod would be good for? I sort of replaced this rod and reel with the one below it (Dobyns Fury Medium Heavy). Otherwise I might just sell it.

Spinning:

• 7'0" Dobyns Fury Medium Light - Dropshot, Ned Rig
• 7'0" Dobyns Fury Medium - Wacky Rig, Shakey Heads

 

Casting:

• Abu Garcia Vendetta 6'9" Medium Heavy, Daiwa AirD 6.3:1 Casting Reel - ?
• Dobyns Fury 7'0" Medium Heavy - Texas Rig, Jigs, etc
• Dobyns Fury 7'0" Medium Heavy Crankbait - Shallow Crankbaits, Jerkbaits, Poppers
• Dobyns Fury 7'3" Mag Heavy - Frogs, Pitchin' and Flippin'

Several things that rod would excel at. Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, light jigs and Texas rigs anywhere where you're in tight quarters, weightless senkos, wacky rigs, bigger jerkbaits, as stiff as those rods are id probably use it for a frog myself.  Most guys seem to like longer rods for froggin but I prefer 7' or shorter.

Cool I guess I’ll just use it as sort of a backup to my 7’ MH Dobyns. 

Sell it or maybe donate it to a Wounded warriors chapter or something along those lines?

That would be my spinnerbait, buzzbait rod. It's also useful for heavier topwaters that cast a long way, like Spooks and the bigger Whopper Plopper. Those baits tend to produce some slack in the line when you're moving and the heavier action helps you get a hookset with a lot of line out.

A shorter rod is always a nice thing to have when you are casting into brush, limbs and lay downs. The shorter rod will likely be just a bit more accurate and sometimes that little bit is just enough to hit that small opening rather than wrapping your lure around some brush that you can't get into to retrieve it from.

 

Now that you have a boat, why limit yourself. I carry rods from 7'6"down to a 5'10".  Trust me, at some point you will be glad that you have a shorter rod handy.

 

I have a 6'9" and a 6'10" MH-XF casting rod that is my do it all rod. Senkos, texas rigged creatures and Beavers, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, frog. Perfect length for me.

Yea this was my do it all rod before I started buying more rods. I’m gonna make this my spinnerbait, buzzbait, chatterbait rod for now

6’9” is a versatile rod, I also have a 7’ medium for throwing small crankbaits and it’s a very versatile rod also
