New Jon or Bass Raider 8e

Featured Replies

On a very small budget so get a new Bass Raider 8e this weekend or save up over the summer and get a new big jon next year. I currently have a 12' jon but is just to small, between the stability problems and my weight just to scary to fish out of. Took it out last weekend had high hopes but just weigh to much and to tall for what I have. So my choice is bank fish another year or go get a Bass Raider 8e. Found them on sale for 399.00 locally. I am 6'4" and 300 pounds will the bass raider 8e work for me, will I be able to stand and cast?

I would get a bigger as in longer and wider jon boat.  I take my buddy out all the time and he is 6' 270 and I am 6' 2" 205.  Plus a Jon boat is more versatile and usually lighter depending on gauge thickness.

I dont' know what size your Jon is now but I have a 12' long about 34" beam and I'm about 6'3" 260 and my partner is about 6' 200 and we don't have any problems fishing out of my jon boat. If you are by yourself you shouldn't have any problems fishing out of a 12' jon.

As tough as it is to wait, I would wait for the bigger jon. If you think your current one is too small, I think you may feel the same with the raider. I have a Tracker Topper 1446, and I love it. NOw it is not as stable as a bass boat, but I have customized it and got it to the point where it is just so easy to fish with, and versatile.

I'm gonna have to totally agree with CFFF.  I also have a 12' (36" bottom) and with two large adults and plenty of gear, we've never had ANY problems.   Maybe you have a 1232?  I've heard those aren't as stable.

Having said that, I also used to own the bass raider (10 foot version) and that boat is pretty amazing also.  You CANNOT flip it.  Unreal.

The boat is 30" wide on the bottom/floor and the sides are 14 maybe 15 inches. The main problem is with trolling motor in the center of the trans. I have water running over the edge whenever I turn around and try and control the motor. Moved the motor as far as I could to the opposite side of the batt. this helped a little, but still only have a couple of inch of the back of the boat out of the water. Going to try adding a cooler with some ice or ??? in the front this weekend. Thinking this might level the boat out from front to back and help a little. This is a old boat, my grandfather got it second hand 35 years ago. The seats in the boat are spaced out weird, not able to set in the middle and run motor on trans and the front floor is curved up so moving the motor to the front is not possible. Seen on different sites people talking about pvc stabilizers but have not seen a pic of one that actually worked. Any ideas? will try anything to get off the bank and fell safe...

Maybe move the battery to the front and run wires to the TM in the back? Should help a little bit with weight distribution.

Moved the battery to the front, along with a large cooler full of paving bricks. Sounds dumb but worked, leveled the boat out able to fish by myself. Whenever fishing with friends just take out the cooler and good to go.
