Color variations in similar baits

Featured Replies

When I say similar I actually mean the EXACT same bait, same brand.

EXAMPLE:

Renegade 6" worms sold by WalMart. They are currently marketed by LUCK E STRIKE. One of thier colors is "off". Electric Blue. One bag has purple worms with blue fleck. The next bag has a worm thats almost solid blue(it has that much glitter/fleck) You can see the worm has a purple base but to the untrained eye it looks totally blue(due to the amount of fleck/glitter)

So which bait is actually the electric blue? Both have the same label but are noticeably different in color.

I work for Academy and every associate is assigned to certain areas of the store, mine are the freshwater tackle, saltwater tackle, & firearms. I handle thousands of packs of plastic baits daily; this is a common occurrence with every brand on the market both freshwater and salt water.

I've also noticed over the years that some of these off colors actually catch better than the intended colors. My favorite worm is Gene Larew 7 ½ Salty Ring Worm Cinnamon Pepper Neon/June Bug Laminated (Camouflage). When I order a 100 pack factory direct some of the worms will have more neon (red) so I'll separate them from the rest because I catch more on these.

So what color is typically considered ELECTRIC BLUE? Is it the purple worm with blue fleck or the almost solid blue color?

There is no set standard saying this is Electric Blue or this is Camo; each manufactory has their own variations; I would think the difference in the amount of glitter would fall under quality control. To me the color electric blue is because of the blue glitter as neon is red glitter and seed is black glitter.

The worms/colors in question are pictured below. One variety is even a tad bit longer than the worms in the other bag.

Wow, that is a huge difference, can anyone say "quality control"??? ;)

Wow.  Either we have bad QC, or we have two different manufacturers supplying worms to whoever markets Renegade.
