Shimano Crucial CPC-x70H for Toads & Frogs

Featured Replies

My experience with toads and frogs is very limited, just recently started getting into it.
I’ve used this rod with a 6:1 reel for fishing toads on keel weighted hooks, 1/8 oz Owner Beast 4/0 or a Gamakatsu equivalent.

I’ve stuck to keel weighted hooks because they make it easier for me to cast, but I can only fish fairly open water with sparse vegetation with them. The toads I’ve used are Rage and Horny toads.
Would this rod cast a hollow bodied frog as well? Say, Booyah Pad Crashers in 1/2 oz?

Thanks....Joe

I use a 7'3 XH Expride over or on top of grass and it casts frogs fairly well into open areas, but I prefer a H for trying to pinpoint areas in heavy cover. If I am fishing open water and trying to get really accurate casts under limbs of right next to laydowns, etc. I will move down to a MH rod.
