I've read that guys will heat the bill on a bomber long a or Cordell redfin to make it a wake bait...has anybody done this with a regular 1.5 size square bill? 

Seems like it would be easier to buy some wake baits rather than maybe completely screw up an existing squarebill.

True but i've got about 30 kvd 1.5s...half of them I've found so if I ruin one I'm not out much.

Well I tried a little experiment...took a kvd 1.5 heated the bill up and bent it with pliers. Took it out and it ran true...also stayed only 4 to 6 inches down and it was also easy to get it to wake by holding the rod tip up. Exactly what I wanted.

   All you gotta do is experiment a little, and you'll find yourself some answers. Some of the answers will be "yes" and some will be "no", but at least you'll have the answers you need. ?   jj

How did you heat the bill?

 

I've never had much luck with wake baits. They look great to me, the fish don't seem to agree though.

I used a lighter but held it a long way away from the bill...waited til it started to discolor and bent it with pliers. A heat gun would work better but I don't have one.

I like this idea. I have a bag full of bandit squarebill I was given and would be fun to experiment with them. I wouldnt be upset in the least if they get messed up. 

Bandits have a pretty thick bill like the kvds do so if you pay attention you shouldn't mess them up.

Ive never used Bandits and I don't really like the colors I have but they were free so I thought they would be perfect to test this out with. 

I've never used the bandit square bill but the bandit 100 is an excellent bait.
