Daiwa Tatula Casting Rods

Featured Replies

I've been looking at some of the newer Tatula baitcast rods. I have a Tatula Spinning rod that I've been happy with it. I was interested in any feedback on the baitcasting rods.

Many threads discussing this line of rods.

I have the 6'10 MH and it's my workhorse. I've used it for everything from weightless senkos to frogs. I'm a big fan, solid sensitivity, lightweight, good backbone. I would definitely recommend one.

I like the Tatula Elite (TAEL) over the Tatula (TAT) original (Black and Gold). I have not held the newer version of the Tatula (TTU cork grip). The TAELs felt a little more sensitive to me, and had softer tips. It just took a while to get over the silver painted blank.

The Tatula Elites (not the Elite AGS's) Kage and the standard Tatula used to use the same blank it was just a different color.  The components and actions were different but as far as graphite quality they were the same so the sensitivity was pretty much the same.  I haven't had the chance to fondle a whole lot of the standard Tats, but the few I have gotten my hands and have used felt good.

I have the Tatula 7'0" Medium Power / Regular Action, designed for Shallow Cranks & Topwaters.

I use it mostly for the Whopper Plopper 90, but does pretty good with Jerkbaits and Crankbaits 3/8 & 1/2 oz. as well as Spinnerbaits & Chatterbaits. I have even thrown Neko Rigs, Ned Rigs and Finesse Jigs on it before and it did ok. The Regular Action is similar to Dobyns Fast Action.

My complaint about the Tatula I have is that the Full Cork Handle seems to have a little give in it at the very top and moves a little when fighting a fish. It's probably just the Quality Control on my particular rod though.

I was also expecting it to be lighter, but they are no where near as light as the OG Tatula was. Mine weighs 4.5 oz., which isn't bad at all, but the OG version was 3.8 oz.

I'm also a little skeptical of the Fazelite Guides they have on them.

But, overall it's not a bad rod for what I use it for. I will be selling it soon though.

The Tatula Elite is SVF with nanoplus technology, whatever that means. The Tatula is just SVF. Does it translate to more sensitivity, it’s all subjective but my OG Tatula’s felt more muted when hitting rocks, structure than the Elites. Just my opinion but all of them are great sticks at the price point.

I have six of them, they're solid rods for the price. Vibrations are on the muted side but they transmit through the rod pretty well - not saying they're less sensitive than other rods of the price point or maybe even a little more expensive, it's just how you feel them (tough to describe). Sort of like comparing a Steez to a NRX, or in the same price point, a Dobyns Sierra to a St Croix Avid or even Mojo Bass if that makes sense.

7'6" H/F flipping rod

7'4" H/F frog rod

7'1" MH/XF casting - T-Rigs, jigs, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, etc

6'10" MH/F first gen with the split grip - this is my go rod for a T-Rig rod or a 3/8oz or lighter jig. This one has a thinner tip than normal rods, something Daiwa uses a lot so it's not able to handle a 1/2oz jig very well but in turn it's more sensitive than the regular tips.

7'2" MH/R glass - squarebills in grass, deep divers, spinnerbaits and crankbaits

7' M/R glass - crankbaits and jerkbaits

Do your elites have the AGS guides? That would do it.
