time to rebuild

Featured Replies

I have a 1956 sears and robuck 12.5' v-hull, with a 1972 johnson 6 hp, and a minn kota 30lb thrust, since I hurt my back, I can't sit in it for very long, and I think I'm going to do a little modification. I love the boat, it's perfect for a one man show, I can use it on any water around here, gas or electric, its even made a trip to presquile bay. My plan is to remove the center seat, put a center deck with a pedestal seat in. remove the front seat, and make storage units, and encase the rear so the battery and fuel tank are hidden. I'm upgrading the electronics and trolling motor to a foot controlled unit. The trailer is getting new fenders, axle, and paint, and this winter, the engine is getting a rebuild.  I'll post pics as I go.

Cool! I would love to see those photos. Old boats are great. There is a guy hear in NC that has a 1936 wooden fishing boat that is 18' long and has a late 50's "no name" motor that he fishes with on occasion and I think it's the coolest boat on the lake.....Well, except for mine.... :D

Likewise, I'd like to see the pics and updates on how it's going.  I am going to get a float tube this month but an old boat with a grey/blue Evenrude, about 25 hp is in my future.

It'll be awhile yet, I neet to get the engine in the wife's car to free up the garage, then i'll aquire all materials I need first.  So far, finding new parts for an antique motor is a challenge.
