Hey guys I have a Garmin 140.  I have been using it with the fish ID on.  I have had no problems with seeing the structure and some cover.  Recently a freind told me not to use the Fish ID.  So last night I turned it off.  Then on the display  I had a lot of little block pixelation.  It was at the top of the screen and off the bottom.  Is this rite?  The pixel blocks would be darker closer to the bottom and lighter going up.  How do I read this?

Once I turned the ID back on it worked properly again.  Or so I think.

Top of the screen is surface clutter. You can dial it down by adjusting the gain. The bottom is shown by either thin dark lines or the lighter wide lines. The hardness of the bottom will determine which line you will see. Your operation manuel will describe the type of line your unit will show for each.

You can also get two seperate lines at the bottom. Your manuel will also describe the reason. I cannot give you specifics for your unit. I run Lowrance units and I am not sure your Garmin will show the same. So you can look it up. If you do not have an operation manuel you can go to garmin.com and download one.

Good luck.

I've never run my 160 with the fish ID mode on.  As all other graphs with that feature, they include a disclaimer in the manual that states something showing as a fish may not be a fish and instead, anything from an air bubble to Jimmy Hoffa's right leg.

Adjust the gain down to eliminate some of the surface clutter.  There's a segment in the manual on adjusting it correctly.

Ok so it should be the gain?

Man you can tell us old timers. I think the gain is now known as sensitivity.

Yes but on the display it does say gain.  I keep most of the setting on auto.  Gain and Depth.  Is this wrong guys?  So when ever you turn of the ID usaully the screen fill up with clutter?
