New Lowrance HDS-5X

Featured Replies

Anyone bought one yet? My old Garmin is getting lines up and down it and I'd like to step up.Just want the depth sounder only. Thanks Crowcommander. Also, is there a place to buy them cheaper than BPS

I don't know about the HD's but both Cabela's and BPS have the 510c's on sale for around $350.

My dad has one on his triton. I wouldn't recommend it. I know you only want the sonar, but he had it for two weeks and it quit showing the depth. The picture is really nice, but for the money you spend you would expect it to work. Also, the charts have only worked once for a few minutes, even though it says the gps is locked on to satellites.

Lowrance have a two year warranty.  I'd think your dad could get it fixed or replaced.  :-?

My personal opinion is that Lowrance uses the general public to do the beta testing on any of their new products.  I wouldn't touch one of the HD's for at least a year.

X3, I had every intention of replacing my LCX15MT units with the 5 and 7, but have now decided to either keep what I have or go with the bird.

True, but what I've heard from others dealing with their customer service it's a pain. It will get fixed eventually most likely this winter. He didn't have to pay for it it was a replacement for a 520c the dealer broke. But the fact is, when someone forks out that kind of cash for something, you expect it to work and work properly, not break or not work at all a couple weeks or months later.

Cabela's has a $150 rebate on this model in their fathers day circular.   :)
