why so much hype over dobyn's 734c and not the 704c?

Featured Replies

I don't have any experience with Dobyn's because I ordered my first dobyns sierra 704c during TW 25 day of Christmas that I plan to use for moving single hook baits like swim jigs, buzzbaits, chatterbaits etc. plus some casting jigs and T-rigs 1/4-3/8oz, but living in Minnesota I obviously can't test it out for a few months.

Anyways, I see all over this forum how great any dobyn's 734c is saying it is a must have and most versatile, and people always suggest the 734 and rarely hear much about the 704c. If the rod line is equal is there that much of a difference between the two? Does it come down to just personal preference or is there an actual difference in action, accuracy, casting distance, etc.?

I feel like as a mostly bank and kayak angler the 704c is more versatile to me and I know I won't regret my purchase, but I am curious.

Longer rod ... longer casts.

Shorter rod ... more accuracy

Depend on what the person wants. As a canoe angler, I like the accuracy aspect more...which is why I went with the Fury 704C (more in my budget).

I’m a kayak guy.  I also just got the 704 from TW over the holidays.  But I got the Sierra version. I bet I can’t tell the diff between the Fury and Sierra blindfolded.

i paired it with an extra Abu RevoSX in 6.4:1 for chatter baits and such.

it cast d**n well.  No fish yet, but soon.  My local bass are drop-shot only right now. My jigs go without love. And chatterbaits, nada.

I'm putting a Supreme on mine for bottom contact - the Patriarch is going on one of my remaining Aird-Xs for moving baits.

Reason? Supreme is 29IPT, the Patriarch is 32IPT - slower reel for bottom work, faster one to burn spinners/chatters better.

suggested baits, S704c  Texas Rigs, Jigs, Carolina Rigs, Spinnerbaits, Horny Toads.

S734c  Spinnerbaits, Buzzbaits, Senkos, Horny Toads, Jigs, Small Swimbaits

So there is some difference. Call Gary at Dobyns, seriously these guys love to talk about their product. And they answer the phone.

Warning: call may be hard on wallet.

That is why I felt the 704c was better for my needs

warning: almost every time I come to this website or visit TW website or even talk to anyone about fishing is hard on my wallet.
