MotorGuide Trolling Motor Question

Featured Replies

I'm getting ready to replace my old trolling motor. I'm looking at the MotorGuide Wireless 54lb thrust. Does anyone out there own a wireless one and would you recommend them.

I don't, but some here may tell you to get a higher thrust ...if it's for a Bass boat.  I have a 71# Motor Guide Digital on my Stratos 19'.

Good Luck!

I don't have one or wouldn't even consider purchasing one. I fish for bass and would not recommend an electric steer trolling motor for bass fishing.

Personally I dont have any experience with the wireless. As to the 54, it really depends on what kind and size of boat you have. I have the MG Tour 109 but then again I've got a big 210 Elite.

I used to own a Minn Kota Power drive digitally steered motor (not wireless) and I didn't like it because...

1. Made a lot of noise turning

2. Turned slowly

3. Pain to stow and deploy because it didn't have a corded handle to grab.  You don't realize how much you miss this until you want to scoot over a log and have to get out of your seat and physically lift the motor and then drop it back down.

I personally would be nervous about wireless steering.  It just sounds like there is too much to go wrong.  Also it would be easy to loose the wireless pedal.
