leaking pro team 170

Featured Replies

I just bought a 2009 pt170. I have had it out a few times and I noticed it takes on water. Its not enough to panic but I have to pull the drain plug and let it drain for a while. I know its not from water splashing over the sides or anything like that. The first time I thought the drain plug was loose so I made sure that was tight the next time out and it still had water. The livewell was taking on water to, about an inch and the drain was tight. So I have no idea about that. Im just wondering if anybody had this same problem or any ideas before I take it to the shop. I might try filling it with hose in the driveway and see if I can see it coming out somewhere. I think it might be the fittings from the livewell but I dont know for sure. Hopefully I didnt buy a lemon. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have the 2009 PT170 also and don't have any leaks----well I did have one real big one because I left the drain plug out--LOL. I put a rubber O ring on the threaded part of the livewell drain pipe-just in case the threads were too coarse to prevent leaking. The plug for the livewell drain is useless since the slightest external water pressure from someone being on the back deck will pop it out.

Check the tightness of the hull fittings near the bilge drain and the hose connection at the livewell pump.

You have a leaky fitting somewhere in the livewell system.

Close off all water inlets and outlets to the livewell system and then fill up the livewell.  That should give you an idea if you've got a fitting loose or hose broke.

that. A brand new welded boat tank tested from the factory......makes me agree that it is the plumbing.

With that boat, there is no livewell "system". All that it has is a line from the fill pump and an overflow pipe that screws into drain-very basic and not much above using a livewell made out of a cooler. If hammy is not using the overflow pipe and is just using the supplied drain plug, that is were the "leak" is coming from since there is no additional overflow. If the livewell is not cracked someplace and it is used as intended, the possible leak is probably the hull fittings (there are only two below the water line) or motor mounting holes not sealed. Anything else has to be a hull defect.

I have an older Pro V 17, that I thought had a leak.  I fixed a leaking livewell pump, but still had water sometimes.  It turned out to be water/waves coming in from the bilge exit hole near the stern of the boat.  Not a lot of water, just drove me crazy for a while.

Thanks for the replies.  I know its not from the livewell or splashing over because I have never filled the live well or had it in rough water.  The livewell never took one water till sunday and I think that was from the drain tube leaking, its kind of cheap looking.  Hopefully I can check it out this weekend to get a better idea of whats goingon.

hammy, did the dealer show you how to use that cheap overflow/drain combo tube? Water will get in the livewell if it is not in place or not rotated correctly.

Send me an e-mail to purdum43@aol.com and I'll explain it in detail if you don't know.

Hammy.  I have a 2004 Tracker Pro 165.  When I first got it I had a mysterious leak when I ran/moved boat with the gas motor but not when I used just the electric motor on an electric motor only water.  I would get a couple gallons or more water.  Long story short, I found that the small plastic tubing going to the speedo was bad. The Electric motor just did not move boat fast enough for water to back up into the speedo tube, therefore, no water.  Tracker replaced the small plastic tubing; leak gone.

Try running the boat while sealing off the inlet hole of the speedo or just take and tie pick-up up out of the water.  Just a thought.    Bob
