Shimano Curado MGL Or Shimano SLX MGL?

Featured Replies

Yes, I would like to buy both, but if you had to choose one, which one? If you own either, is it worth the price? Or do you wish you had the other 70 reel instead of the one you have?

I guess I'm asking, help me decide which to get?

I went with the SLX MGL, ordered from Japan last fall. Great reel, very smooth, works well for light lures. Was throwing a weightless trick worm on a pretty stout rod and it did great.

The Curado 70 MGL is probably a better reel though. Micro Module gearing and dual supported pinion bearing may be worth the extra money.

That said I have no plans to replace the SLX MGL. It seems solid and smooth so far and I am sure with a little TLC every once in awhile, it will last a long time.

I also own a Curado K and a Stradic FL 2500 that I really enjoy using as well. Those three reels cover my needs very well. If I were to buy another reel though, the curado 70 MGL would be near the top of the short list.

I own both. I’ve only fished the slx mgl a was really impressed.  It palms very well, casts well and its smooth.  I haven’t used the curado mgl yet but in terms of feel and comfort I prefer holding the slx over the curado.

I went ahead and ordered the Curado MGL 71, 7.4:1. I may later on get the SLX MGL.

I have the Curado 51, Curado 71; so the newer Curado MGL 71 will be added to the smaller Curado family.

I got a SLX MGL 70 XG today. Just tried casting a weightless Senko out in the yard so far. It bombs them pretty good. I really love the size of it.

The Curado mgl has become one of my favorite reels. I have a 7 and 8 speed, and both are fantastic for lots of stuff. Both are on an IMX-Pro 852 JWR, a beautiful light weight matching.
