Swimbait fishing -- getting a bite from a follower

I've just started throwing swimbaits lately.  No fish yet, but I'm working to change that.

My last outing, I had my first visible 'follower' fish.  When that happens, what do you experience swimbait guys do to coax a bite out of the follower?

If I remember correctly, Big Bass Zone(book) recommends sticking your rod into the water and trace a figure '8' with your swimbait.  You might also try just 'killing' it.  Oftentimes, a Bass thinks a bait is going to get away, seeing the boat as a secure 'spot' so make the bait do something 'unusual' ;).

You might also consider placing your boat at or near the shoreline near a feeding flat or a drop-off.  Retrieving a swimbait towards shore can make a Bass think it's going to be easy to trap its prey(your swimbait) as the bait's escape routes are limited by the shrinking difference between the water's surface and the rising bottom.
