Got my first fish of the year!

Featured Replies

Been fishing 2-3 days a week for last couple weeks since ice melted. Kept getting nothing and seeing nothing. Almost questioned why I was fishing. But could not stop myself from going out. Last couple days here in Albany NY have been around 70 degree and today was high 50s. I was at Six Mile Waterworks and slowly going around whole lake at every bank you can fish from. Crawling and climbing and losing about 25 bucks to trees over hanging the lake. Then I find a ice looking spot and for the FIRST time this year I looked in the water and right by the bank I saw little minnows! So I knew there must be fish there somewhere. After a half hour or so I had a bass follow my Vibrax in and just peck at it right by the shore but didnt bite enough to catch. Threw a bunch of stuff then finally the Rapala. I cast it far out and a few feet reeling and he HIT it hard. My first fish of 2021 and my first large mouth bass ever. I ended up getting 2 more bites by missed them but after that I caught another smaller one on some cotton cordless lure from walmart where I made it ow in the dark eyes.

Noticed they would not bite stuff fished at bottom or on top. Only lures that dived a bit they would hit so I guess they were in the middle of the water.

So glad to finally get some fish. Maybe they finally woke up around here so fun times i hope.

Nice, glad it is starting to work.

Personally I'd either lip the fish with the trebles or if holding the fish like that get my other hand on the line to pull the lure away.  Trebles in hands aren't fun.
