I never purchased a new gas motor before. What price range am I looking at for say 10,15,or 20 HP. This we be for a 16 ft modified "V" jon boat.Also could you give brands that you have had luck with and what brand should I stay away from. Thanks

Your basically looking at $100 per horsepower. All of the major brands are good motors. I have a 30 Johnson and it has never gave any problems.

The $100/hp isn't the case anymore, especially on the smaller outboards.  It is more like double that.  A 9.8 hp, dedending on options, is over $1800 for most brands.  Call a dealer and ask and you will know exactly.
