Any Idea if there were any meaningful updates to the 2021 Legalis?

Beside color change I don’t really see anything new, still old D2 material unlike other JDM Daiwa that gone to new plastic type (heavier) or Zaion V (cheaper than Zaion). There are more option of size and gear ratio. I might get one in 2000 size.
The difference between each model and about 10-15 dollar.

Regal no airbail.

Legalis Fold down hex handle (over time this can get loose)

Exceler screw in handle, some said this type handle stronger than hex handle (cannot change knob)

Fuego add magnetic seal and knob can be replace not riveted in like cheaper one. Please do not drop regular reel oil on to the shaft of this reel, it might get mix with mag oil and damage the seal property on Mag seal.

I'd have probably rather had the Exceler because of the screw in handle, but I found a Legalis LT 2500 for $49 so I grabbed it.

I'm still on the lookout for a BG 2000 at a great price though.

Looking at the lineup, why not the 2021 Legalis LT over the Exceler?

never used the Legalis. I am not going to suggest a reel I have not used.

I have used a diawa regal. they are functional, but not at the level of an exceler.

I have used the exceler and fuego extensively. honestly can't tell much difference , besides price, between the 2.

After some research, the Legalis and the Exceler are the same reel basically, with the nod going to the Exceler because the handle screws directly into the main gear like the higher end reels. other than that there’s really no difference.

I’m trying to decide if that feature is worth an extra $30.

The retail price is about 10 dollars difference. A lot easier to make decision base on type of handle you want. I went with exceler, actually sold my legalis to a good friend and bought exceler to replace it in the purpose of, I can get different handle if I want to (widely available compare to hex type handle).

My old beat up Sahara 750FB (10 years old) also got Hex handle and still working just find, I pulled more than a few of 4-7lb catfish with that reel while fishing for crappie.

The Legalis LT can be had for $49. Presumably because they updated to colors for 2021. The Exceler LT is still $79 pretty much everywhere.

And yea, I think every spinner I’ve ever had is the hex “through” handle design, and while I have had some develop some play, most work fine.

Theres no denying that having the handle threaded directly into the main gear is a superior design though.

until the nut on the other side comes loose and falls off. had that happen on a couple reels.

does not happen with the exceler

To complicate things, I just realized the BP Carbonlite 2.0 reel is basically an Exceler with an extra bearing, and a shallow spool. For the same price.

that’s really intriguing.

The new Exceler looks great. And it’s the new Zion V frame material.  Too bad we don’t get the nice stuff in the US.
