It gets most of it off.  I have used a bristle brush on the inside surfaces.  If it is an old stain you might have to use an aluminum cleaner.  I like 3M products.

You can go to a truck stop and get some stuff called Aluma brite my Dad uses it on his fuel tanks on his Truck and it works great and a gallon is only about 10$ he puts it in a pump sprayer spray it on let it set and hose it off with water it will look brand new
