Sentry vs. Stabil

Featured Replies

Sentry Fuel Treatment vs. Stabil Marine formula; was wondering which one of the two are better; or do they both rank the same in performance?? Both are to deal with negative effects of ethanol (and the water that ethanol attracts) in gasoline. The Sentry web-site is very informative: (http://www.sentrytreatments.com/shtml/faqs.shtml#anchor731650).

I am using the Stabil Marine formula now for my Yamaha 25hp, 2-stroke. I totally believe in the saying that an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure and only want to use the best for the long-haul.

Thanks - Eric

Never heard of Sentry before. I have used Sta-Bil marine with great results. I've also used Star- Tron with great results. I tried Seafoam for the first time as a carb cleaner recently. Didn't seem to be of any benefit to me and it's VERY expensive compared to Sta-Bil or especially to Star-Tron.

Yes, Seafoam is expensive and there's a reason.

It has a cylinder decarb agent, cleans injectors and carbs, fuel stabilizer as well as neutralizing water in ethanol.

Stabil is a fuel stabilizer and .........

and seafoam is recommended by service centers. And you can use it for other stuff too. Like your other small engines to clean them and to get coleman lanterns working again. Great stuff.

I use Stabil and Startron. Have not used Seafoam, but heard good things about it.

Not sure which is better, but the important thing is to use something.

If you want a fuel stabilizer you can't go wrong with any and for most people that is enough.  Although, I remember reading that some fuel stabilizers can gum up. That why I run Seafoam at cleaning levels once every 50 hours for its decarbonating abilities and every other tank at additive level.   Make sure you change your plugs if you run Seafoam at more concentrated levels.

If you use Seafoam all the time, a de-carboning procedure will not be necessary with an additional chemical or a more concentrated mix of Seafoam. I use it all the time and for all small engines and outboards.

StarTron.  It took a couple of months, but it cleaned up the carbs in my old 60hp to the point that it ran like new.

Seafoam.

In every internal combustion engine made ;)

I use Stabil always, my boat is in the shop right now becuase of gum up carbs and a fuel sensor problem. I just do not have time to do this myself. Glen I think your recommendation on Seafoam may have saved me some problems so I will be using from now on.

I used to use StaBil marine until I read some posts here regarding SeaFoam.  It is the only thing in my boat, mower, ATV etc.  Now

I love this forum... Thanks again everyone

i bought a boat last month that had been sitting in the guys driveway for a year. it has 25hp merc on it and the first time i took it out it only got upto 3000 rpms. took it home put seafoam in the carb and sprayed it in the cylinders let it sit over night. looked at it in the morning and there was a huge puddle of grayish sludge on the ground. took it out on the water burned off the seafoam and it brought the rpms to 4500. its awesome stuff!

Seafoam.

Hard to beat seafoam

Seafoam gets another vote. Best there is on the market.
