Those are a nice unit but if you live near a Cabelas go to the Bargain cave I was at one yesterday and they had alot of different units in there. CHEAP

Yea i tried the bargin cave they had a NICE one marked down from 800 to 300 but it came with just the unit none of the wires or base. The guy said i might be able to get the parts from the website but being my first fishfinder i would like to get something i know has everything included so there will be less hassle.

thanks

Internal is just what it says. The antenna is built into the unit. If you go this route do not mount it in the dash or any other area that will block the signal.

The external antenna has a puck type antenna that you can mount anywhere on the boat. It connects to the back of the unit just like the power cable or the transducer cable. If you are using the remote antenna and go with a Lowrance they recommend that you mount the antenna at least three feet from the unit to cut down on interference.

Not sure about Humminbird, but Lowrance units like the 522c/igps can use either antenna. You just have to go in, turn off the internal, and change the setting to use the external antenna.

Good luck,

Jack

fishfordollars, the Humminbird internal GPS antenna will work for in-dash mounting as well as the new Lowrance HDS units. The only internal antenna units that would not work in-dash is the older Lowrance units like the 522 because of the shielding. The new design HDS solved that problem.

No remote puck required.

Cool, I was wondering where to mount my new Lowrance. my mistake for not knowing about the new unit. I have the 522c and tried it up front built in and had to move it. Guess I will put the new HDS5 in there and give it a try.

Thanks for the info Wayne.
