Travel Swimbait/Musky Casting rod recommendations

Featured Replies

Hey forum members,

I am going on a trip soon where I will be fishing a lot of swimbaits, mostly soft baits but some hard baits in the 3-4 oz range, but I am bringing a couple rods along with me but the only one I am missing is a swimbait rod. If anyone has any recommendations I would be very grateful. Looking to spend up to 150 dollars.  Have searched everywhere for the nomad xpress series but I cannot find any.

tight lines

Cabelas Brand:

https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-graphite-series-muskie-casting-rod $50

Bass Pro Shops Brand:

https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-predator-musky-casting-rod $100

Look at the specs for both rods, some of them come it two pieces.  The cabelas brand ISN'T available in two pieces.  The rods won't come in 2 pieces if the action is above medium heavy, but the medium heavy(2-piece) is rated to handle the lures you want to throw on them.

I'd go with the 8 foot, medium heavy fast, 2 piece rod, since you going to be traveling with it.

No problem, are you looking for a two piece rod or do you want a one piece?

two pieces or more, I have one piece rods but the price was brutal for bringing my 8 foot rod tube with me. Rather take a couple travel rods in a smaller case for free.

Gotcha, then I'd go with 8 foot, medium heavy fast, 2 piece rod.  I don't know if you'll be able to get something to handle big baits in more than two pieces.

IROD Gen 3 7’9” H the 18” handle in front of the seat comes off, not a true 2 piece but fits into  6 1/2’ tube.

I think I paid around $150 for my F5 Departure, on sale
