Ugly Stik Elite. Now what do I do?

Featured Replies

I had a $50 gift card to BPS, so I ordered a M/H,F, 7' Ugly Stik Elite.  I'm not going to send it back, but it seems incredibly heavy.  What particular use do you think it might be best for?  Keep in mind that I live at the top of NY, so I won't be flipping 3/4 oz jigs into cyprus stumps to wrestle 8lb largemouth out.

Catfish?

Really, I dumped all my Ugly Sticks - as much as they're tooted, I think you can get much better rods at the same price point.

not a rod I use for bass.  catfish, on the other hand, are great for Ugly Sticks.

I used my ugly stik elite for years as a do all. Cause it will. Now it’s my frog rod and I hardly touch it. The more you get into finesse fishing the worse ugly stik performs.

That being said, get a reel and go fishing. It flat can’t do subtle but it will catch fish. It’s great for spinner baits, cranks, anything moving. Doesn’t transmit well so I never used it for worms to great success. Other than swimming something. But it’s a good rod. Solid.

Maybe as my whopper plopper rod.

To my understanding the Elite is a faster tip than the moderate GX2s so you could maybe throw things like T-Rigs, jigs, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, paddle tail swimbaits, and if not well throw some crankbaits.

What do you do? Get a reel and go fishing.
