Stress fractures?

Featured Replies

I got my first bass boat in June, it is a 1992 Ranger 372V and it has been good to me all year long but it has stress fractures on both sides of the outboard and a few others a little outside of those.  The guy who sold me the boat was very straightforward and said since they appeared they hadn't got any worse, they haven't gotten any worse since I have owned it either.  My question is, should I look into getting these repaired?  How much will this cost me if I do?

Some pictures would do wonders.  Gel coat spider webbing is one thing,  stress cracks in the transom around the engine/splashwell area are usually associated with a rotting transom.

The first time you are near a dealer or someone very knowledgeable have them look at them.  Stress cracks in the top gel coat is very normal and no, I would not waste the time or money getting them fixed, good chance some more will just show up.  There's not many boats you will ever own that won't have some show up.

Now, if they are deep cracks, that could be a sign of things not right, like a weak transome.  That's why you should have an experienced person take a quick look at them.

If they are just surface cracks it is your call. If they are not though, you need to check the transom. Those can get worse and not show it.
