Smallmouth fishing in maine

Featured Replies

(mods, please move if this is not appropriate location)

We are visiting Acadia in July, I was looking for guided fishing tours and a few names for smallmouth fishing guided fishing tours came up. This is to be sure not in Acadia / Bar Harbor area, but around Kennebec River. Are these tours any good, I am happy to drive if we end up catching good sized smallmouths with a guide who knows what they are doing ? It seems around 2 hrs away but just want to see if its something that is worth the drive from Acadia to go to.

I have neve used a guide service or been on a float trip on the Kennebec river. But I think most of the guides are good from what I have read. There are videos on You Tube about fishing on the river. Kennebec is know more for quaintly of the fish caught then size.

Thanks, that is helpful. I saw some videos and you are right those fish seem small ?

We can not do sea fishing too much (get sick on boat without fail) and therefore are looking for some fresh water options. I could not find anything in Acadia but the river has some guided tours.

Depends on what good sized smallmouth means to you.............a guide will get and keep you on fish but I would expect a 3-4lb'er to be good sized on there so that means mostly 1-2 1/2lb fish. Lot of fun and lot of fish in a short time, your call. Catch a big one.......

Check out Tim Moore - he's usually on Lake Winnepesaukee but guides on other waters as well. He might be a NH-only guide though, but maybe he has some recommendations.

Check out fisheast on Facebook. Think he's around Machias.
