Ok so i am looking to get a locator with gps but i can't afford one that is too expensive. I have looked at hummingbirds, lowrance hds-5, and eagle. my question is can you take your memory chip from a hummingbird or eagle locator with all the spots you have marked and put it in a lowrance hds-8 and it show your spots? And is it a navionics chip that i need or an mmc/sd chip? I am really kinda lost when it comes to this. Thanks

You will need a SD card if you want to take your way points off of your current depth finder and transfer them to a new depth finder. The format on some units are not compatible with others. There is software you can download to do this, depending on which unit you are buying.

You can get a blank 1 gig SD card from Walmart for under $10. That is all you need.

Navionics mapping software is on a SD card but not writeable without damage to the software.
