How do you keep your boat in position on a windy day I have a 15 ft skiff and have a 43 thrust trolling motor but on the real windy day I have a hard time staying where I wanna >;) and usually run done most of my battery what do you guys to to beat the wind? also what pound thrust trolling motor  do you have on your boat and how long is your boat thanks

I have an 8' bass buster type boat.  I beat the wind by getting out of it.  With a 30lb minn kota it is nearly impossible to fish on windy days.  So I just find a protected cove or leave the lake.  My wifes step dad has a 22' champion and I swear it could be 50mph winds and he keeps that thing right where he wants it.

Cliff

A light weight boat is going to be pushed around by the wind a lot more than a heavier boat, simply physics. If I'm on fish or on good structure in strong wind, I'll anchor by the bow and fish for a while. I usually fish in sheltered coves or river channels out of the strongest winds.

My tm is a 50 pound thrust, 16' boat.

A small boat on a windy day can be challenging.  There are several ways to address this, most of which involves throwing money at the problem.

You can't ever have too much trolling motor.  Get the most powerful trolling motor you can afford.  I know Minn Kota has a 50 or so lb thrust 12 volt.  Motor guide surely has something similar.  The difference between a 43 and a 50+ is significant.  If you've got the room in your boat for the batteries, go 24 volt.

If you're staying with a 12 volt motor, extra batteries can give you more time on the water.  Wired in parallel ( positive to positive, negative to negative ) give you the same voltage that lasts longer.

A drift sock works to slow down your drift.  Dragging a heavy chain works nearly as well.

Jimmy Houston, all the time, says "The wind is your friend."

If you're fishing on a windy day, keep telling yourself that you're hanging out with your friend, see how that works.

Use an anchor or a drift sock.

Anchor  ;)

If you don't have adequate power for your trolling motor to fish into the wind, just use the wind to your advantage and  fish faster. Use your trolling motor to control/slow your boat and allow the wind to blow you down a shoreline, along a weed bed, etc...  Cast forward and fish fast baits.

Socks work well slowing you down on large long expanses of deeper water or trolling.
