FIrst Boat

Featured Replies

So i'm getting my first boat. It is a 14' semi v. Comes with a small trailer. My question is can a sub-compact car pull this thing around fine? I don't have the funds right now to get a truck. I was reading around and most people said the problem is loading and unloading. Any helpful tips will be gladly appreciated!

Pulling it around, you might be fine. But when you try and stop in hurry you might have a problem. That and loading and unloading at the ramp you might have problem also. Try it if anything you'll burn your tires off the first time you load it and pull it out of the lake. ;D

First, find out vehicle tow capacity from a dealer or google search.  I did the same when I wanted to use my '93 civic hatchback (no towing capacity to speak of) to tow a 14' jon.  You're going to put a lot of stress on your brakes and transmission over time.  I ended up trading in my other car (Mazdaspeed3) for a truck; payment went up and gas went way up, but one way or another I had to make a sacrifice, but still have the civic as my gas saver.  Possibly try trading/selling your subcompact for a light duty truck or midsize vehicle.  Either way you're going to end up thrashing your subcompact and be forced to buy a vehicle with sufficient towing capacity.  Good luck!
