Shearon Harris owned me

Featured Replies

Admittedly the conditions were poor, crystal clear sky, hardly any wind, water temps 75 and climed to 80 with  80+ degree air temp and the day before a front. Some muddy water along the shore of the main lake

Tried main lake points, secondary points, flats in 10-20 feet of water, flipped laydowns along the shore off the main lake and down some of the fingers, tried fishing the muddy water line. My single 10" fish came from a a small 1/4oz spinner after it breached the surface after some bait fish. Found the food sources no problem just couldnt get bit. Jerkbait, walking bait, popper, frogs, jigs, large and small shaky head, senko T rigged, crankbaits of varying type.

Any big tip I missed on this lake or was it just a bad day? Been hearing nothing but great things and made the 1.5hr trip to spend the day there.

Never heard of that lake, but sometimes it happens to the best of us.
Some days you just can’t buy a bite, but still no reason not to go back.

Definitely, still plan to go back. I really enjoyed having bank line to work without the clutter of houses and docks.

I'm sure the fish are there, just a tough day.

Oh yeah, I know Shearon Harris. It has been tough to me too in the past but there are some true lunkers in there as I'm sure you're aware. Haven't fished it anywhere near consistently enough to offer substantial advice but take a look into the areas I circled. I've caught some good fish around there including a 5lber.

Talk to some other locals.

P.S. You are fishing some heavily pressured waters. Yes it is a great lake but understand that you might have fish slower and with more finesse than you're used to. In the postspawn, I worked a t-rigged senko deathly slow in the areas I circled.

Thanks I'll be sure to check those spots out. A few boats were always on that area when I came out of the arm just to the upper right of your map. Might have been a clue haha.

My home lake is tar river reservoir so I'm used to pressured water but I'm still usually able to pull 3-5 a trip. Not discouraged at all, just definitely was a much tougher trip than expected! Will make pulling in a decent one more rewarding.

I am guessing on the rightmost circle? Let me just say that I know that some giants have been caught in that vicinity. Are those buoys still out there? Right in that area.

also my biggest bite on Shearon Harris was in those arms that you mentioned in the upper right. One of the smaller ones. Lost that one ?. Bent the hooks on my jerk bait. I was inexperienced

There was one every now and then there but there was always 2 boats working each side of that big flat arrow head just above your circles. There were i think 2-3 buoys on that and they were fishing the ledge from tip all the way in. Different boats too each trip to that region of the lake.

Edit: it happens... those heart breaks are the lessons I don't repeat lol.

Okay gotcha. Interesting. I never liked that flatter arrow head but others know more than I do, especially the locals. Best of luck when you head back there, Shearon Harris is a very sporty lake. Not the prettiest I've fished, but it's a lake for sportsman.
