Rotor Assembly Loose On Spinning President Reel

Featured Replies

I have an exploded view of this reel so I think I'm using the correct terms (I'm no reel expert). Not sure if it is this exact one:

So the rotor assembly has some play in it, like it wiggles side to side when I gently try and move it. It seems loose. My other Presidents don't do this. The main shaft moves with it.

I'm wondering if I can tighten the rotor nut (doesn't seem like it), or maybe there is another way to tighten it so it doesn't have this play. I've had this reel 3 years and it is my most used, so it has had a lot of use.

I was lubing it today when I noticed, and it seemed funky the last time I fished. It is otherwise smooth.

I tried googling this and found nothing. Thanks for any help!

Edit: The main shaft doesn't seem to move with it. The rotor nut seems tight. The shaft does move, but less and independent of the rotor, far as I can tell. I can't say for sure.

It might be #40 the pinion bearing.  Take the rotor off and check from there.

The rotor is connected to the "core" part of the reel - the AR bearing, the pinion bearing, the pinion gear... So if you're sure the rotor nut is not stripped, then there're a lot of possibilities for the wobbling problem you mentioned. It's hard to diagnosed virtually, and I'd suggest sending it professionals like DVT here.

Ya it sounds like it could be a bearing from what I've read, which isn't much. It works fine, not sure it's worth paying to repair. Maybe I will try it myself and learn a thing or two. Thanks guys.
