Old evinrude foot controlled trolling motor repair question

Featured Replies

Ok so the other day my grandpa's 12 year old evinrude brand 50 some pound thrust trolling motor had a steering cable break and I was wondering if this could be fixed and how much.

I ask because I have a hand controlled motor guide varimax for my jon boat and either I would like to fix the old foot controlled TM and install it on my jon boat or just use the old TM mount with my varimax hand controlled on my jon boat. Which would be easier/less expensive to do? Thanks! -Eddie

These older evinrude/Johnson trolling motors are still in service and are tough as nails.  I have one on my 96 Stratos and I have been waiting for it to die to upgrade.  It won't.....

You can get many if not all of the parts for them on the internet.  Very reasonable.

The last time I bought an OMC steering cable, it was about $50. I had three of those motors up until early 2009.

The trolling motor shop at Lake Fork Marina/Motel usually has them.

Try these guys as well. Like Wayne said $50 to $60 bux and you are good to go. Not very difficult to replace. Just keep things organized when breaking down and you should have no problem. Wells Trolling Motor
