Anyone know anything about the Shimano Expride A Casting Rod

Featured Replies

I am looking at buying a Shimano Expride A Casting Rod Medium Heavy Fast Action 7‘2“. Anyone know anything about the rod or have any opinions?

Between that model you mentioned and the 6'8 medium heavy, I picked the latter for its accuracy and ease to control. I haven't fished it yet, but it's a bit on the stiff side. There're many threads here, as well as on other sites, that talk about Expride rods. A quick search and you'll see.

I have one and like it a lot. I’ve thrown a ton of different stuff on it and it’s handled it all with ease. Good quality and comfortable to use. Great value, lots of bang for your buck imo.

A lot of people love the Expride rods, myself included. On the casting side of things, I have the 6'10" MF and the 7'2" MHF that you're asking about. It's a great all-around rod. Power and action seem accurate for how I think a rod with those numbers should bend. Although it's rated up to 1oz I feel like it does best in the 1/2 - 3/4 oz range.

What one do you like more? I have never used a rod under 7 feet. From what I have seen, you can really do it all with this rod. Should I buy one?

I have that rod but haven't used it that much. It's good for lipless crankbaits and probably a good all around utility rod. Probably be good for jigs and Texas rigs if you like a bit of a slower action than what I prefer.

If you took my 6'10" MF and my 7'2" MHF from me and gave me MSRP for both rods I'd definitely buy the 6'10" again and would probably buy the 7'2" again. They're a good complement to each other.

I do think the 7'2" MHF works well as an all-around rod. I throw stuff like a 3.8-4.3" Keitech, 1/2-3/4oz lipless, 1/2oz chatterbait, 3/8oz jig, T-rigged soft plastics with a 1/4oz weight, etc.
