minkota edge 40 foot control

Featured Replies

looking to get an inexpensive foot control trolling motor for my 14ft jon and so far this looks like the best bang for the buck. only thing im worried about is it doesnt have the spring on the front for hitting stuff. just wanted to see what BR's opinion on this guy is or if you know or have a better deal.

I used the hand control model for years with not problems :)

Never used a MK Edge 40 before, but my MK AT 33 on my 14ft jon and it works fine without the spring feature.  I've come across quite a few stumps and rocks, and the shaft is still straight as an '8'....I meant an arrow.  I've never hit stumps on while speeds 4 or 5, but from time to time I'll bump into one on speeds 2 or 3, but sustain no damage.

I have a 40# foot controlled either edge or all terrain, not sure which, but it has been awesome. Not a single problem with it in two seasons of use. Kind of wish it had half speeds because the difference is huge especially from 2 to 3 and 4 to 5.

I was under the assumption that it does have half speeds.  I set the dial to between 2 and 3.  Did notice somewhat of an increase from 2, but not has fast as 3.  I'm not 100% sure tho...based only on butt dyno.

Not a bad motor, i liked mine when I had it.  4-5 was a major speed difference.  I definatly liked the pedal feel of the value line minnkota vs the value line MG.  I didnt like the shaft prop fork thingy on the mount, it broke the second time that i pulled the motor up, but didnt affect the functionality or storage of the motor.  My honest advice would be to check craigslist for a tmotor or call your local tmotor repair shop to see if you can get a deal on one.  I've seen lots of bigger motors for sale locally for $200 or so as guys are upgrading to newer units on their fiberglass rigs
