I need so help deciding what to get. I am looking at the Humminbird 597ci and 788c. I am really wanting the GPS feature for this upcoming nightfishing season. They both look like quality units with similar features. I was wondering if anyone has either of these units and would care to share your input. The price difference is around $80.

I have the 788 Ci at my console and love it.  It has some features that are worth the extra $80.  The display screen is larger.  It has two SD card slots where the 597 only has one.  It also has three preset buttons that make it easy to switch between screen views.

You would not be disappointed with either one, but if you can swing the extra money get the 788.

Whats the difference between the 788ci and the 788c?

c = external gps antenna

ci = internal gps antenna

Most people use a ci on the front because the distance between the unit and trolling motor transducer is short.  Smart people use a c on the console and mount the gps antenna over the transducer in the back to increase waypoint accuracy.
