Lowrance Structure Scan Issue

Let me start by saying thanks in advance for any help!

 

I'm running a Gen 3 HDS 9 at my console and a 3D Structure scan module.  When I turn the unit on, 7 out of 10 times I have to hard reset the head unit before it will actually process the signal.  If the structure scan is working and I restart the unit, it is likely that the structure scan does not work.  

Anyone else run into this? I talked with a Lowrance pro recently and he suggested I roll back the software to version 7.0 and thought the issue was due to an update that didn't install properly.  I've ruled this out now because I'm experiencing the same issue with the old software.
